6″ Rainbow trout.
They are in about every wild stream in the high country. We catch them pretty consistently, and tend to not give them the time of day. Rainbow trout just aren’t the coveted fish like big browns or native brookies.
The other day, I was fishing one of my favorite local streams. I got into a few of these rainbows and took a second to really think about why these fish don’t get the love others do.
It’s because they are so common. They are non-native, yet they represent the majority of wild fish in our area. There is nothing wrong with them, and they don’t do any harm. Why the hate?
Respect the bows’, man.
